Your Enneagram Type’s New Year Resolution!

Happy New Year from your Dope Therapist & Enneagram Coach, Corretta!

With the New Year here, you may be ready to set some intentions and goals to accomplish this year. If you are familiar with your Enneagram type, you may wonder how you can apply that wisdom to skyrocket this year into further success. If you are new to the Enneagram, don’t worry, let’s dive in!

“The Enneagram is more than your average personality test. It is a tool of inner discovery and growth that helps to identify core ingredients that makeup one’s sense of self. Enneagram coaching, by extension, is the process of using this tool and the framework it provides in order to come to a greater understanding of self, and even how we see certain attributes expressed in relationships with others.”

The main power of the Enneagram is that it reveals not only what a person does, but why they do it, or rather, why they continue to become trapped in particular patterns of behavior. With these types in mind, we can project forward and provide helpful hints when trying to set resolutions you can achieve!

Here's the breakdown of what you might need to hear right now:

Type 1, Moral Perfectionist

This year your resolution should focus on becoming more self-accepting with exercises that prompt you to unleash your creativity. Set a resolution that goes against your drive to fix things, release your idea of being right, and set a goal to achieve something that you may not get right the first, second, or third time.

Type 2, Supportive Advisor

Release your belief that you are undeserving of love. This year, set intentions that there is an abundance of love that is ready to envelop you. Look inward this year and set resolutions that may even feel selfish! Learn to recognize your own needs and take care of yourself.

Type 3, Successful Achiever

This year your major focus should be to set a goal to unplug and be present with the ones you love. When you take on this challenge, you can step back and examine your success as you relax, and feel happy with what you have achieved so far.

Type 4, Romantic Individualist

Bring organization to your creative mind by creating goals and schedules. Examine your longing. What feels missing in your life? Create resolutions that can help you get to your destination. Focus on the organization of how you are going to get there, don’t get caught in the dream.

Type 5, Investigative Thinker

Give your mind a break and get your body moving. This year, recognize the amount of time you spend in pursuit of your passions at the expense of your connections with others. Try to create resolutions that allow you to connect with others while pursuing the activities you love.

Type 6, Loyal Guardian

Quiet the inner noise and learn to trust yourself more. Examine your habits of self-doubting. Your gut is intuitive and won’t lead you astray. What would it look like to trust yourself? Set resolutions that force some trust exercises.

Type 7, The Entertaining Optimist

Instead of rushing from one activity to the next this year, take time to reflect. Examine the ways you mentally slip into the future on a daily basis. What are ways you can be present in these moments? Create resolutions that foster slowing down and reflecting.

Type 8, Protective Challenger

Put your money where your passion is and find brands that give back or small businesses that help you feel more connected to your community. Examine how you withdraw when you are feeling disconnected from others. What would it be like to take the first step in getting involved?

Type 9, Peaceful Mediator

This year, spend time journaling to inspire intentional living that is both productive and meaningful. Journaling will help you find your individualism. Who you are in your heart?  Your resolution in journaling is to help avoid your identity being lost in others.

What are some other resolutions you have for the new year?
